How Important Are Finances & Taxes In Divorce?

Knowledge is power...

A surprising reality to most people getting divorced is that (outside of child custody issues) a divorce is primarily considered a financial transaction by judges and attorneys. While there is justifiable emotion around a divorce, it is NOT the platform for "justice" that many believe it should be.  Perhaps you have been wronged by your spouse - infidelity, addictions, unbalanced work share in the marriage, even just plain meanness. These issues are real, and they may be relevant in some aspects of a divorce, but you should understand that the divorce process will likely not result in the decisions and judgments that you believe your spouse "deserves" for his or her transgressions.

Given the substantial case loads that most attorneys and judges have, they have very little time to focus on your case and to sort out facts.  In EVERY case there is finger pointing and "he said, she said" issues, and the courts generally will not take the time to sort it out.  That is, unless you want to spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on your case - still with no guarantee of the result you want.  Your pain and suffering, sadly, is not necessarily going to be considered. At the end of the day it is largely about getting

to a "deal."  So the better you understand your finances and the tax implications of your divorce, the better result you will get, and the better off you will be in moving on with your life when the divorce is all over.

This is where we come in.  We will work with you to make sure you understand

your current and future financial picture, as it relates to both your divorce but also your post-divorce life.  The more you know, the better you understand your financial facts and circumstances, the better deal you will be able to negotiate and the more peace of mind you will have.  Knowledge is power...and knowledge is empowering!
